So this is where I begin describing urgentcraft, this idea of modest tools and materials. Using what’s available to deliver an important message that needs to be expressed quickly. And this has powerful connections to radical publishing, which I’ll get to later. But before I continue I’m going to get a bit personal, because if we’re going to approach whatever’s urgent — “out there” in the world — I think we have to start at home with our own stories, our own positionality, our own relationships to power and oppression.

To approach the question: “what is urgent?” begs another one: urgent for whom? Let’s interrogate the location from which we speak, and how we address others. Whatever the language is that you use — this is the backdrop for approaching urgency.

URGENCY:
Urgency is something of a long term concept. While we are still impressionable, our consciousness is being radicalized by forces we don’t recognize (like political memes that are essentially propaganda). This forms our world view for years to come or in extreme cases causes leads to acts of physical violence.
